1. Basic Core Parameters
1-Butene (n-butene) has the molecular formula C₄H₈, CAS No. 106-98-9, and molecular weight 56.1063. Its melting point is -185.3℃ and boiling point is -6.47℃. It is a colorless gas with a faint aromatic odor at room temperature, insoluble in water, easily soluble in organic solvents such as ethanol and ether, with an explosion limit of 1.8%~9.6%, and belongs to an extremely flammable hazardous chemical gas.
2. Core Industrial Applications
It is an important basic chemical raw material. It can be polymerized to produce polybutene for the production of domestic water supply and drainage pipes, and used as a comonomer to produce linear low-density polyethylene (LLDPE). It can also be used to synthesize chemical products such as sec-butanol, butadiene, methyl ethyl ketone and butylene oxide, and can also be used as pharmaceutical intermediates, cosmetic raw materials and papermaking additives.
3. Safety Storage and Transportation Points
1-Butene is a UN 1012 flammable gas. In the NFPA 704 rating, its flammability reaches the highest level 4, health hazard level 1, and chemical stability level 0. It needs to be stored airtightly in a cool, ventilated and explosion-proof dedicated warehouse, away from open flames and high-temperature heat sources. Anti-static and ventilation protection measures must be implemented throughout the operation process to avoid leakage and accumulation in confined spaces to form explosive gas mixtures.
