Advantages Of Isobutane

Low global warming potential

Gwp is an indicator of how much a gas contributes to climate change. It measures the energy absorbed by emissions of 1 ton of a gas over a specified duration relative to the emissions of an equivalent mass of carbon dioxide.

Energy efficient with enhanced cooling performance

Isobutane provides excellent cooling performance while consuming less energy. As a result, it ensures optimal sample and material protection while reducing electricity costs and greenhouse gas emissions.

Isobutane Gas

Used as fuel: Isobutane is often used as a fuel, especially as a component of gasoline. It can provide energy for the engine and ensure the normal operation of the engine. Although the use of isobutane is relatively limited, it is mainly used as a fuel, but its purity is as high as 94%, which meets the basic requirements as a fuel.

Anti-corrosion effect: It can be used for oxidation surface anti-corrosion treatment of steel and other metals under the condition of copper oxide as a catalyst, which can effectively extend the service life of the metal.

Refrigerant: Isobutane is a commonly used as refrigerant, known as R600a. Its molecular structure gives it a low boiling point, so it can effectively absorb and release a large amount of heat, thus performing well in freezing and refrigeration applications.

Solvent: Isobutane is mainly used as a solvent in the chemical industry. The characteristic of this solvent is that it does not chemically react to most substances, so it is considered an inert solvent. In the processing of heavy oil and lubricating oil, isobutane is often used as a solvent for deasphalting and dewaxing.

Industrial cooling: Isobutane has important applications in the field of refrigeration, which is often used as a refrigerant in oil refining, chemical and natural gas processing operations. Its low-temperature characteristics make it an indispensable part of these industrial processes, ensuring that equipment and processes operate at appropriate temperatures.

Aerosol promoter: Isobutane is mainly used as a promoter in aerosols. Aerosol is a suspension system composed of solid or liquid particles dispersed in a gas. The addition of isobutane can effectively improve the stability and spray performance of aerosols.

Used to make mixtures: Isobutane is mainly used to make mixtures. This mixture is commonly used in various industrial and commercial applications, including but not limited to refrigerants, propellants, and organic solvents.

High Purity Isobutane

Preparation Method of Isobutane

It exists in liquefied petroleum gas, natural gas, and cracked gas. The four fractions of carbon produced by petroleum cracking are separated.

Using industrial isobutane as raw material (content 82%~91%), a three-stage adsorption process is adopted. The first-stage adsorber removes impurities such as C2, C3, n-butane, 1-butene, etc., the second-stage adsorber removes isobutylene, and the third-stage adsorber further removes C2 and C3 hydrocarbon impurities. The product purity is greater than 99.99%.

Natural gas is obtained by adsorption or freezing with surfactants after fractionation.

Safety Guidelines for Using Isobutane

Store in a cool, ventilated warehouse dedicated to flammable gases. Keep away from fire and heat sources. The warehouse temperature should not exceed 30℃. It should be stored separately from oxidants and should not be mixed.

Use explosion-proof lighting and ventilation facilities. Mechanical equipment and tools that are prone to sparks are prohibited. The storage area should be equipped with leakage emergency treatment equipment.

FAQ

Q: Is isobutane a carcinogen?

A: There is currently no scientific evidence to suggest that isobutane, a gas used as a refrigerant and a propellant for aerosol cans, directly causes cancer.

Q: Is isobutane safe for food?

A: In the absence of genotoxicity alerts and given the very low toxicity following repeated exposure with no observed adverse effect concentration (NOAEC) of several thousands of mg/m3 by inhalation, it was considered that the use of isobutane as a foaming agent, at the expected exposure from food, does not raise a safety.

Q: What is the difference between butane and isobutane?

A: Isobutane is an isomer of butane, meaning it has the same chemical formula as butane – C4H10 – but has a different arrangement of its carbon and hydrogen atoms. Isobutane is commonly used as a refrigerant, called r600a isobutane refrigerant, and as a refinery additive to gasoline.

Q: Is isobutane safe in deodorant?

A: Expert (CIR) Panel. The CIR Expert Panel evaluated scientific data and concluded that Butane, Isobutane, Isopentane and Propane were safe as a cosmetic ingredients under present practices of concentration and use.

Q: Is isobutane natural?

A: Of the five natural gas liquids (NGLs), isobutane stands apart in its sources and markets. Isobutane comes from gas processing plants and refineries, but it is also the only NGL intentionally made from another NGL – it's cousin, normal butane.

Q: Is there formaldehyde in deodorant?

A: Formaldehyde is next on our list of what ingredients to avoid in deodorant. Within the beauty and cosmetics world, Formaldehyde is commonly used as a preservative to extend the shelf life of products and prevent any bacteria contamination.
