Preparation Method of 1-Dodecene
1-Dodecene is commercially produced by oligomerization of ethylene via a number of processes. In the Shell Higher Olefin Process (SHOP), a nickel catalyst is employed. In processes triethylaluminium is the catalyst. Similar to the SHOP method, these processes rely on ethylene insertion into an Al-alkyl bond competitively with beta-hydride elimination to give the alpha-olefin, regenerating an aluminium hydride. Other processes have been developed. Tridecanal is produced by hydroformylation of 1-dodecene.
Storage and transportation characteristics: Warehouse ventilation and low temperature drying; separate storage and transportation from oxidants.
Dangerous characteristics: Flammable when exposed to open flames and high heat. It can react with oxidants. If the flow rate is too fast, static electricity is likely to be generated and accumulated. Its vapor is heavier than air and can spread to a considerable distance at a lower level. It will catch fire and backfire when it encounters a fire source. It is easy to self-polymerize, and the polymerization reaction will rapidly intensify with the increase of temperature. If it encounters high heat, the internal pressure of the container will increase, and there is a risk of cracking and explosion.
