n-Nonadecane
n-Nonadecane is a homolog of n-octadecane, belonging to the straight-chain saturated alkanes, with the chemical formula C₁₉H₄₀.

Appearance: Typically a white waxy solid or crystalline at room temperature.
Melting Point: Approximately 32 °C (slightly higher than n-octadecane, making it prone to melting in warmer room temperatures).
Boiling Point: Approximately 330 °C.
Solubility: Insoluble in water, but highly soluble in organic solvents such as diethyl ether, chloroform, and benzene.
2. Main Applications
Phase Change Materials (PCMs): Similar to n-octadecane, n-nonadecane is an excellent phase change material. With a melting point of around 32 °C, it is highly suitable for human thermal comfort management (e.g., constant-temperature mattresses, thermal-regulating clothing) as well as temperature regulation in greenhouse agriculture.
Chemical Feedstock and Industrial Additives: Used in the synthesis of surfactants, lubricant additives, rubber processing aids, mold release agents, and waterproofing agents.
Analytical Chemistry: Commonly used as a standard reference material for retention indices in gas chromatography (GC) analysis.
3. Safety Profile
Toxicity: Generally considered low-toxicity or non-toxic, with minimal irritation to the skin and eyes.
Flammability: It is a combustible solid and can burn when exposed to open flames or high heat. It should be stored away from ignition sources and oxidizing agents.
💡 Comparison with n-Octadecane
n-Nonadecane shares very similar properties with n-octadecane. However, because it contains one additional carbon atom, its melting point and boiling point are slightly higher. In practical applications, n-octadecane and n-nonadecane are sometimes mixed in specific ratios to precisely adjust the melting point and phase transition temperature of the phase change material.
