Isoprene is a colorless volatile liquid with a petroleum ether-like odor, boiling point 34°C, melting point -146°C, density 0.681 g/cm³, insoluble in water but soluble in organic solvents such as ethanol and ether, with a chemical formula of C5H8. It is mainly used in the production of polyisoprene rubber, the manufacture of pesticides, medicines, fragrances and adhesives, etc.
