n-Butane is one of the simplest straight-chain alkanes. It is a colorless, flammable gas that is gaseous at room temperature and atmospheric pressure, but easily liquefies under pressure.

Appearance & Odor: Colorless gas with a slight unpleasant odor (pure product is odorless).

Boiling Point: Approx. −0.5°C. This means it boils just below room temperature, which is why it requires pressurized storage.

Relative Density: Lighter than water (approx. 0.58), but heavier than air (approx. 2.05 times). This property causes leaked gas to accumulate in low-lying areas, increasing fire risks.

Ⅱ.Main Uses
n‑Butane has a wide range of applications, primarily in the following areas:

Fuel & Energy: It is a major component of Liquefied Petroleum Gas (LPG), widely used for household heating, cooking, and industrial heating.

Chemical Feedstock: In petrochemicals, it is an important raw material for producing maleic anhydride, butadiene (a synthetic rubber precursor), and other chemicals.

Solvent & Refrigerant: It is often used as a subcritical extraction solvent for plant oil extraction. Additionally, it is an environmentally friendly refrigerant (designated R600), with zero ozone depletion potential (ODP) and a relatively low global warming potential (GWP).

Consumer Goods: Used as lighter gas, propellant in insecticide aerosols, etc.
