n-Butane is a colorless, flammable, and easily liquefied gas, a key product in petroleum refining and natural gas processing.
As a fuel, it can be used in lighters, portable stoves, household fuel, and industrial fuel. As a chemical raw material, n-butane can be produced through a series of chemical reactions into a variety of high-value chemicals: ethylene and propylene (steam cracking), maleic anhydride, acetic acid, and butadiene.
Leveraging its readily vaporizable and non-toxic properties, n-butane is used as a foaming agent and propellant. As a solvent and extractant, n-Butane can be used to extract vegetable oils (such as soybean oil) and certain chemicals. Refrigerant: n-Butane is an environmentally friendly refrigerant.
