n-Hexene is a colorless, transparent liquid with a petroleum odor. It is insoluble in water but easily soluble in organic solvents such as ethanol, ether, and benzene.Density: 0.6731 g/cm³ (20°C), melting point: -139.7°C to -140°C; boiling point: 62.8°C~63.5°C. n-Hexene is flammable and belongs to Class III dangerous goods.
n-Hexene reacts with hydrogen, halogens, and water to produce alkanes, halogenated alkanes, or alcohols. n-Hexene is oxidized by acidic potassium permanganate to produce valeraldehyde and carbon dioxide. n-Hexene reacts with peroxyacid to produce epoxides. n-Hexene self-polymerizes under the action of a catalyst to form a high molecular polymer.
Application:
Used as a comonomer of polyethylene (especially high-density polyethylene HDPE, linear low-density polyethylene LLDPE).
Manufacturing spices, dyes, resins, plasticizers, and surfactants.
As an oil additive and high-octane fuel.
