1. Description of Isopentane Product
The chemical formula of isopentane is C5H12, also known as 2-methylbutane. Its English name is Isopentane or 2-Methylbutane. In industry, it is also called R601a. It is a colorless and transparent volatile liquid with a pleasant aromatic odor. It is mainly used in organic synthesis, industrial refrigerants, solvents for catalysts in polyethylene production, foaming agent for foaming plastics like polystyrene, foaming agent for polyurethane foam systems, and solvent for deasphaltification, etc.

2. Main applications of isopentane

The main industrial applications of isopentane R601a are as follows:
1.Can be used as a solvent for catalysts in the production of polyethylene
2. Foaming agent for thermoplastic polystyrene
3. Foaming agent for polyurethane foam system
4. Deasphaltic Solvent
5. Refrigerant for LNG (Liquefied Natural Gas) Plant
6. This product has a high octane rating and can be used as fuel for automobiles and aircraft.

3. Emergency Handling for Isopentane Leakage
1.Emergency handling for leakage
Quickly evacuate the personnel in the contaminated area to a safe zone, and isolate them. Strictly restrict access. Cut off the source of fire. It is recommended that emergency responders wear self-contained positive pressure breathing apparatus and wear fire protection suits. Try to cut off the source of leakage as much as possible. Prevent entry into restricted spaces such as sewers and drainage ditches. For small leaks: use activated carbon or other inert materials for absorption. A non-flammable dispersant-based emulsion can also be used for scrubbing, and the wash liquid can be diluted and then discharged into the wastewater system. For large leaks: construct embankments or dig pits to contain them; cover with foam to reduce the hazard of vapor. Use explosion-proof pumps to transfer to tankers or special collectors, and recover or transport to a waste disposal site for disposal.
2.Protective measures
Respiratory protection: Generally, no special protection is required. However, in special circumstances, it is recommended to wear an air-supplied self-ventilating filtering respirator (half-face mask).
Eye protection: If necessary, wear chemical safety goggles.
Body protection: Wear anti-static work clothes.
Hand protection: Wear benzene-resistant and oil-resistant gloves.
Others: Smoking is strictly prohibited at the work site. Avoid long-term and repeated exposure.
3. First Aid Measures
Skin contact: Remove contaminated clothing and thoroughly rinse the skin with soapy water and clean water.
Eye contact: Lift the eyelid and rinse with flowing water or physiological saline. Seek medical attention.
Inhalation: Quickly leave the scene to an area with fresh air. Keep the airway clear. If breathing difficulties occur, provide oxygen. If breathing stops, perform artificial respiration immediately. Seek medical attention.
Ingestion: Drink plenty of warm water, induce vomiting, and seek medical attention.
Fire extinguishing method: Spray water to cool the container. If possible, move the container from the fire scene to an open area. If the container has changed color or emitted sounds from the safety pressure relief device while in the fire scene, evacuate immediately. Fire extinguishing agents: Foam, dry powder, carbon dioxide, sand. Water is ineffective for extinguishing the fire.
