Isopentane for Polyurethane Foam Blowing Agent
Isopentane is a highly volatile, colorless liquid hydrocarbon with the chemical formula C₅H₁₂. As a branched-chain alkane, it is widely used in industrial applications due to its excellent properties as a foaming agent, solvent, and refrigerant.
Isopentane, chemical formula C₅H₁₂, CAS No. 78-78-4, is a colorless, transparent, volatile liquid alkane, one of the isomers of pentane. Due to its low boiling point (about 28°C), low toxicity and good solubility, it is widely used in polyurethane foaming, chemical solvents, refrigerants and other fields.
2. Product Features
High purity: industrial grade (≥99%) and reagent grade (≥99.5%) are available, with low impurity content.
Low boiling point: suitable for low-temperature foaming and rapid evaporation processes.
Chemical stability: not miscible with water, but compatible with most organic solvents.
Environmental protection: Compared with some freon foaming agents, ODP (ozone depletion potential) is 0, which is more environmentally friendly.
Flammability: It is a flammable liquid (UN 1265) and needs to be kept away from fire and high temperature environment.
3. Main application areas
✅ Polyurethane (PU) foaming agent
Used in the preparation of rigid polyurethane foam for refrigerators, freezers, building insulation boards, etc., with high foaming efficiency and uniform pores.
✅ Polystyrene (EPS/XPS) foaming agent
Replaces traditional fluorocarbon foaming agents, reduces production costs, and complies with environmental regulations.
✅ Chemical solvents
Used in rubber, resin, coating and other industries as extraction or reaction media.
✅ Refrigerant
Compounded with other hydrocarbons, used in low-temperature refrigeration systems (such as deep freezing equipment).
✅ Laboratory and pharmaceutical intermediates
High-purity isopentane can be used for analytical reagents or pharmaceutical synthesis.
4. Packaging and storage
Large packaging: tank truck (20-30 tons), ISO TANK tank, 200kg steel drum.
Small packaging: 50kg iron drum, 25kg plastic drum (anti-static treatment required).
Storage requirements: cool and ventilated place, temperature ≤30°C, avoid direct sunlight, and store away from oxidants.

Transport classification: Class 3 flammable liquids, dangerous goods label required.
Safety data: Provide MSDS (Material Safety Data Sheet) and COA (Quality Inspection Report).
Environmental certification: Comply with international standards such as REACH and RoHS.
