Isobutylene is a colorless flammable gas with an unpleasant odor at room temperature and atmospheric pressure.

Isobutylene is an important chemical raw material that can be used to produce butyl rubber, polyisobutylene, diisobutylene, triisobutylene, methyl methacrylate, 2,4-tert-butyl cresol, tert-butyl mercaptan, tert-butyl alcohol, tert-butyl amine, methallyl chloride, methacrylic acid, methacrylonitrile, neopentaldehyde and isoprene and other deep-processed products.

The chemical utilization of isobutylene mainly includes the utilization of mixed C4 residual isobutylene and the processing and utilization of high-purity isobutylene. The former is mainly used to produce methyl tert-butyl ether (MTBE) and tert-butyl alcohol, etc., and the latter can be used to produce butyl rubber, polyisobutylene, methacrylonitrile, tert-butyl mercaptan, tert-butylphenol, antioxidants, tert-butylamine and other organic chemical raw materials and fine chemical products.
